classy new york adventures with marissa

It's really lovely having visitors, and this weekend I hosted my friend Marissa from Toronto. I welcomed her to NY with a trip to Murray's Bagels, and then we ran back to my apartment to get ready for our evening adventures. We met up with my friend Caroline around 3:30 and headed to the Met (the museum, not the Opera company). Our whole plan was to take advantage of the Met's Saturday Balcony bar, complete with a string quartet, and roam the museum through the evening. We even got all dressed up!

Yummy cheeses with fig jam and lots of white wine

Some favourites from the Met (not including their incredible collection of paintings)
After not being able to get a cab, we somehow managed to make it back to my apartment via subway (poor Marissa was in heels that were killing her). We rewarded ourselves for the journey by ordering in Mac and Cheese from SMAC in two varieties: All American and Mediterranean (Goat cheese, spinach and olives mmm). We might have also finished the night with a return trip to the Milk Bar. I think I've developed a Birthday Cake Truffle addiction. Oh no.

We spent the rest of the weekend shopping and adventuring. I picked up this dress from Madewell that I had been coveting for months. Not only was it super duper on sale, there was only one, and it was in my size!
If only I had a party to go to!
We also had brunch at Friend of a Farmer in Union Square with Marissa's uncle and his gf, and the food was super tasty. Sunday night we spent visiting my friend Alex on the Upper East Side where he was houseitting, along with my friend Tom who was visiting from Toronto. Overall was a very fun weekend! Thanks for visiting Mariss!

The most syrup-y, undrinkable Margarita that made Alex ill. Poor guy
Marissa's was way less gross.
