Last night I went to one of the best shows I've seen in a while, Built to Spill at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. First off, I should mention that I really effing love Williamsburg. Yes, I know it is hipster heaven blah blah blah, but maybe the reason hipsters flock there is because it is legitimately awesome. It only takes me 20 minutes to get there from my place, and I think I'm gonna start spending more time there.
I went to the show with Linnete, my new concert buddy. Here we are sitting on the floor during the opening act.

We got super close and were a couple feet from the front. The lead singer, Doug, has hilarious hair and a very gruff appearance but a voice like gold. I didn't realize how gorgeous their songs were until last night, and not just the songs I was waiting for them to play. "Wherever you Go" was particularly wonderful as was "Liar" and "Kicked It In the Sun" - the latter which may be my new favourite song of theirs. Their amazing combination of strong riffs, flawless vocals and really subtlety beautiful instrumentation left me in a kind of blissful daze for the entire show. That is until "Dystopian Dream Girl" and "Car" where the whole crowd just went wild. Oh and they covered "Ripple" by the Grateful Dead. Me and the hippie chick behind me were really happy about that.

Tonight I went to New York City Center with my cousin Roseanne to see my cousin Ephrat dance in the Fall for Dance festival and it was amazing. Looking into more dance shows in the city including definite plans to catch a Alvin Ailey show.
